Plantagchemie opens a big "Institute of Technology"
On September 25, 2007 the new “Institute of Technology” of Plantagchemie, coating manufacturer, was solemnly opened in Detmold on a surface of about 1000 square metres. In future, beside practical applications and applications under close to real life conditions, theoretical training and advanced training for Plantagchemie’s staff as well as for customers and wood work technicians of the University of Applied Sciences - OWL will be provided.
On January 11 of 2008 a contract was concluded between this company and the University of Applied Sciences - OWL for the cooperation in the surface engineering field for industrial wood products. From now on these two partners from the industry and universtity want to concentrate their experience and potential in coating formulation and coating manufacturing as well as in the practical research of production processes, and furthermore they intend to closely cooperate in the field of liquid surface coatings of wood and wooden materials.
On the occasion of the opening ceremony Prof. Tilmann Fischer, president of the University of Applied Sciences - OWL, thanked the Plantagchemie managing director, Hanno Baumann, graduate chemist and engineer, for “the successful example of technology transfer, a win-win situation which in this case ensures that our students too take special advantage of it.”
Plantagchemie’s customers and staff now have a Institute of Technology at their disposal in which also complex coating operations can be carried out under close to real life conditions. Nowadays this is of decisive importance for coating development and for the subsequent creation of marketable products.
This means a quite special advantage for Plantagchemie’s customers. On the one hand the number of tests on customers’ plants are reduced – on the other hand the customer can test “his” surface structure or new application processes together with the competent developers and technicians in the Institute of Technology.
The equipment makes college education for surface technology directly on the coating plants possible and offers excellent conditions for transfer workshop events in the wood and furniture sector.
In the same building an extensive workshop area for up to 80 people is available parallel to the sophisticated machine room equipment.
